Tips & Strategy
- Don't stop to fix a mistake mid-word. Chasing accuracy over raw speed tends to raise your real WPM more.
- Keep your eyes on the passage text rather than watching your own fingers or the input box.
- Rest your fingers near the home row between attempts so you're not repositioning them each time.
- Take a few short attempts in a row. Typing speed tends to improve slightly as you warm up.
- Use Retry Same Text to repeat one passage. Knowing the words in advance shows you what your fingers can do when reading isn't the bottleneck.
- Watch your best combo after each test. If it's short, your mistakes are clustered in a few tricky words, and those are the ones to practice.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does WPM mean?
WPM stands for words per minute. It's calculated by dividing the number of correctly typed characters by 5 (the average length of a word), then dividing by the time taken in minutes.
What's a good typing speed?
Average typists land somewhere around 35 to 45 WPM. Speeds of 60 WPM and above are generally considered fast, and professional typists can exceed 80 to 100 WPM.
Does accuracy affect my WPM score?
Yes. Only correctly typed characters count toward your words-per-minute score, so typing quickly but sloppily won't inflate your result.
Why can't I paste the passage into the box?
Pasting is blocked on purpose. The test is meant to measure how fast you actually type, so typing the passage by hand is required.
Is there a time limit?
Yes. Each attempt ends after 60 seconds if you haven't already finished the passage.
Is my best score saved?
Yes. Your personal best WPM is saved on your device and kept for your next visit.
What's the difference between the three modes?
Quick passage is one short text that ends when you finish it. The 30 and 60 second modes give you a longer stream of text and end when the clock runs out. Each mode keeps its own personal best.
How are the rank titles decided?
They come from your WPM: Warming Up below 25, Steady Typist from 25, Above Average from 40, Fast Fingers from 60, Speed Demon from 80 and Keyboard Legend from 100 WPM and up.
What is the combo counter?
It's the number of correct characters in a row. A wrong character resets it to zero, and your best combo from the test is shown on the results screen.
How does the daily streak work?
Finish at least one test a day and your streak grows by one. Miss a full day and it starts again at one. It's stored on your device, so clearing your browser data resets it.
